Extra Sour Pickles: Our Sour Scale and the Sourest Jar to Buy
Some people want a pickle that is barely there. You are not one of them. You want the jar that makes your eyes squint and your mouth water before you have finished the first bite. If you are shopping for extra sour pickles, this is the guide to our sour scale and the jar to start with.
Our sour scale, from mild to bold
Every [PICKLES] jar falls into one of three families: sour, spicy or sweet. "Dill" is not its own family. It is an ingredient, and our dill jars all live on the sour side. Within the sour family, here is how they climb:
Mildest sour: The Dill Chips
The Dill Chips are the gentlest of the three: salty, zesty and bright, with a classic dill taste. The everyday chip for burgers and sandwiches, and the right start for anyone who thinks they do not like sour.
Medium sour: The Vintage
The Vintage is the old-fashioned classic: medium sour, earthy, with classic pickling spice. If you grew up on a grandparent's pickles, this is the jar that tastes like that memory.
Most sour: The Power Sour
The Power Sour is the one for sour lovers. Extra tangy and refreshingly sharp, it stands up to sharp cheese and spicy cured meat on a board, cuts through a rich bratwurst, and makes a bold pickleback. If a pickle cannot be too sour for you, this is your jar.
More jars for sour lovers
- The Kosher Dill Spears: robust and garlic-forward, with black peppercorns. The deli-style spear.
- The Pickle - Dill Spears: classic, crisp and tangy, the spear for a turkey club.
- The Skinny Pickle: thinner-cut chips with a bold, tangy flavor and a light crunch.
- The Zesty Okra: tangy and herbaceous, a Southern classic with no heat.
- The Pickled Red Onions: bright magenta and sour, not sweet. The topping for tacos and sandwiches.
- The Pickled Lemon: for the sour lover who also likes sweet: it tastes like concentrated lemonade. See ways to use pickled lemon.

Extra sour pickles FAQ
What is the most sour pickle you sell?
The Power Sour. It sits at the top of our sour scale, above The Vintage (medium) and The Dill Chips (mildest).
Are your sour pickles spicy?
No. The Power Sour, The Vintage, The Dill Chips and The Kosher Dill Spears have no heat. If you want both, try a jar with "Spicy" in the name.
What is the difference between dill and sour pickles?
At [PICKLES], dill is an ingredient, not a separate category. Our dill jars sit in the sour family and range from mild (The Dill Chips) to bold (The Power Sour).
How long do the jars last?
Up to two years unopened on the shelf. Refrigerate after opening.
